From solutions for small and medium businesses to enterprises, storage provides secure, scalable systems that keep you ahead of ever increasing data demands. Whether its direct attached storage (DAS), networked attached storage (NAS), storage area network (SAN), just a bunch of drives (JBOD), storage servers or storage virtualization, the right storage will provide the exact balance of performance, capacity, scalability, and cost to fit your budget.

DAS is a low cost storage and backup solution for small businesses. Connecting directly to a server or host client without a network connection, DAS features built-in intelligence, making this suitable for failover, RAID and security. It can be referred to as a single drive or group of drives that are connected in a RAID array. Delivering higher performance for localized storage needs and not having to traverse the network in order to read and write data are reasons why DAS is an appealing option for enterprises.

NAS allows additional storage space to be added to a network without affecting the systems already on the network. NAS devices simplify the task of adding storage because NAS eliminates the need to configure network operating system for routine file-sharing tasks. They are configured using web-based GUI’s. Each NAS acts as a separate device on a network and can be used for scalable backup.

Consisting of a high speed network of storage devices that connects with servers, SAN can be accessed by applications running on any networked server. Not only does it remove storage from servers and places it in a location that can be accessed by any application, but separating storage from servers frees up servers for other tasks not related to storage. Designed for managing large amounts of network block level storage, SAN devices include tape libraries and disk-based devices, like RAID hardware. Though SAN storage has existed for years, its ever-increasing performance is based on network topology.

JBOD provides the means to add additional capacity to an existing storage architecture. The drives can be used as individual logical volumes or configured as a RAID using a RAID card or software. This collection of disks/drives provide workflow flexibility and control of data storage and backup strategies – reducing the need for multiple external hard drives.
